Janine Ledford has been the Executive Director of the Makah Cultural and Research Center since 1995. She has been appointed the Makah Tribal Historic Preservation Officer to promote traditional practices, such as Ozette basketry. Her position protects the cultural traditions and important cultural sites of the Makah Tribe. She serves as a Chairman for the District Board of Directors on the Makah Tribe’s Higher Education Committee in the Cape Flattery School District. In other leadership, she is on the Burke Museum Advisory Board and a formal member of the Governor’s Advisory Council for Historic Preservation. In all of her work, she incorporates Makah language and value systems into the impact she creates.
