She conducts archaeological and ethnoecological research that spans disciplines and communities and situates the knowledge and experiences of the past within current social and ecological contexts. Some of her leading efforts include the Clam Garden Network, the Herring School, and Sea Gardens Across the Pacific. A featured collaborative project includes Húy̓at (www.hauyat.ca) with the Heiltsuk Nation, the Heiltsuk Cultural Education Center (HCEC), and other partners offering a compendium of materials including Heiltsuk memories, language, and oral traditions that come from community-initiated research, ethnographic sources, and archival documents.
