Jay Mills is a Suquamish Tribal Member, and an elected Tribal Council member for over 25 years. Jay has been employed with the Suquamish Tribe and Port Madison Enterprise for just over 45 years. Jay is also a commercial fisherman with a wealth of knowledge in gathering, and preserving Salish seafood for over 50 years. Jay grew up in Bremerton WA along the shores of Phinney Bay, that’s where his Great Grandmother Celia Jackson and Great Uncle Oliver Jackson taught him the traditional ways of cooking and preserving Salish seafood. Jay has been teaching students at Chief Kitsap Academy how to traditionally smoke and can chum salmon through the Ocean-to-Table project at Suquamish.
