Brenda Asuncion was raised in Waipiʻo (ʻEwa, Oʻahu). She joined Hawaiʻi-based non-profit Kua‘āina Ulu ‘Auamo (KUA) in 2013 and her primary responsibility is to coordinate opportunities for loko i‘a practitioners to collaborate and amplify their collective efforts, through the facilitation of the statewide network of loko iʻa called Hui Mālama Loko Iʻa. She is a dancer of Hālau I Ka Wēkiu. Brenda is a founding steering committee member of the Indigenous Aquaculture Collaborative.
