Hwsyun’yun Skye Augustine is a descendant of the Stz’uminus Nation and is a doctoral candidate in the Coastal Marine Ecology and Conservation lab at Simon Fraser University. Skye is a leader in reawakening clam garden practices, and Indigenous governance and stewardship. Previously, she coordinated the Sea Garden Project in the Southern Gulf Islands — a collaboration between Coast Salish Nations and Parks Canada to examine the impact of clam gardens on intertidal ecosystems, combining Indigenous knowledge and scientific study. She continues to advise on this effort as a member of Hul’q’umi’num Seafood Working Group. Skye is a founding steering committee member of the Indigenous Aquaculture Collaborative.
